Education & Training

The UK has a range of training specialists that focus on power engineering or hands-on operator training.

UK companies are also experienced in training for general electricity market overviews, energy trading and risk management, energy regulation and market operation, financing and contractual issues and asset management.

The UK offers hands-on operator training for power station operators (using state-of-the-art simulators) and transmission and distribution network workers. Also provided is bespoke training on how to operate key power generation systems, often as part of a technical advisory service. Major management consultancies offer capacity building services, as do the main professional advisory companies.  This work ranges from short (one or two week) courses for managers on specific issues to longer term and broad ranging support, where a number of trainers are embedded within the client organisation for several months.

A number of major conference companies operate from London, providing conferences and seminars on electricity matters.  In addition, several university business schools run academic post-graduate courses and other short courses on various aspects of energy markets and trading.  Most of these events are run at UK venues, but many are held overseas.  In both cases they attract a significant proportion of delegates from outside the UK.
