The NSAN offers courses and qualifications including nuclear apprenticeships; foundation degrees in nuclear decommissioning, HVAC energy engineering, construction and civil engineering, nuclear related technology (covering the specialisms of commissioning and maintenance, instrumentation and control, science and process). Nuclear research facilities are also being extended through the creation of a National Nuclear Laboratory and other initiatives, such as the Dalton Nuclear Institute, which was set up in April 2005 to coordinate and facilitate engagement of Manchester University’s nuclear capability in activities like nuclear new build, geological disposal, waste management and decommissioning, plus links into other aspects of nuclear technology such as medical, fusion etc. The Dalton Institute's vision is to become: "A world class institute for nuclear science, research, innovation, exploitation and education".
