The UK is also a world leader in decommissioning civil nuclear power reactors and associated facilities, with over a decade of experience. We have embarked on our own major domestic decommissioning programme, which is the responsibility of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). 

 UK companies are also involved in decommissioning projects around the world, including Russia, Western and Eastern Europe and the USA. The UK’s expertise in decommissioning extends across the three main recognised options, namely immediate dismantling, safe enclosure and entombment. UK contractors such as AMEC have excellent reverse engineering, demolition, dismantling, land reclamation and rehabilitation capabilities, supported by a supply chain with abilities including conducting remote operations, radiological survey, alkali metal disposal, safety documentation, waste management and hazardous materials handling.
