Strategy recommendations

To maximise opportunities in the global energy market the UK Energy sector and government must work together closely. Accordingly, a new group made up of government and industry representatives – the UK Energy Excellence Board – was set up in May 2008. This will oversee:

  • Establishment of a mapping tool to help companies in the UK Energy supply chain identify opportunities in exisiting and new areas
  • Development of a UK Energy brand to highlight the sector's strengths and promote UK Energy businesses internationally, particularly in markets with high growth potential
  • Prioritisation of sub-sectors for significant marketing campaigns facilitated by UK Trade & Investment working with business partners
  • Promotion of international business development through marketing strategies to deepen relationships with influential energy investors and decision makers in specific markets
  • Use of the mapping tool to develop marketing material that showcases the UK Energy sector internationally
  • Adoption of a whole sector approach to energy at UK Trade & Investment.

The Board will develop strong links with the new Energy Technologies Institute and other energy related organisations. It will also work with appropriate national Government departments, including the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Department for Environmental Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), and the Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) as well as regional and devolved government.
